We are very happy to announce that THE COMMONS recently won ‘Small bar of the Year’ at the Time Out Sydney Bar Awards, for DOWNTOWN, our small bar beneath the restaurant.
Its humbling to receive recognition for all the hard work of creating an intimate and interesting bar that gets back to the fundamentals of classic drinks, just as our eating house gets back to the reverence for simple food. Well done to all the other winners, especially our neighbours Shady Pines. It is an exciting time to be in Sydney, with so many people giving all they have to making the city more interesting. We think Myffy Rigby from Time Out Sydney sums it up pretty well:
“We’re not forced to choose between pubs or super-expensive cocktail bars anymore, though we still have plenty of both. Bartenders are opening bars they want to drink at – not just places they think Sydneysiders want. And that’s made all the difference.”
